slideroneone 01All the houses are perched above the island in the Palia Chora (Old Village), and are owned by ‘foreigners’ who tend to live in their house for some of the year and rent it out at other times. For this reason, you will feel more that you are staying in a home than in just another holiday apartment - each house has bags of character, is furnished and decorated in its owner’s individual style and has many personal touches around the place.

So, what can you expect when you choose to stay in an Alonissos Homes house?

Your house will be up in the Old Village area of Alonissos.

Bed linen and bath towels will be supplied, but you will need to bring your own beach towels.

When you arrive here, Olyvia will meet you and show you to your house, which will have been cleaned and prepared for the right number of guests. She will give you the key, and then you will be left undisturbed for as long as you want; but if you would like a cleaner to be arranged or you need any help of any sort, Olyvia lives no more than five minutes walk from each of the houses and will be on hand to assist with whatever you want. If you would like to drop in and see her, you will always be welcome.

All houses have kitchen areas and shower rooms; some have bedrooms upstairs, some down.

Most of the houses have balconies, where you can sit and enjoy a wonderful view over to the sea and across to other islands.

The Old Village is a residential area and houses are close together; and while you will not have a garden and lots of land around you, a shady courtyard is likely to be yours to enjoy.

Unsurprisingly, water on Alonissos should be used sparingly. Each house has its own ‘sterna’ and, just occasionally, these run out. It’s just a case of being careful, not leaving taps dripping, not going overboard with the washing and not being over zealous with the shower! In the unlikely event of the sterna running dry, a water delivery will be arranged.

How many places are there in the world where your rubbish is taken away by mule? Not a lot – but it does happen here! Just leave it in the specified place at the right time.

The houses are within a short walking distance of tavernas and bars, a bakery, a small supermarket, an ice cream parlour and various gift shops.

The houses are about twenty minutes from the sea – downhill; but it’s a long, steep walk up, especially in the heat. Taxis are available though! Or, if you wish, we can arrange car hire for you.

The Old Village is a pedestrian area, some of the streets are uneven and steep - and there are quite a few steps to negotiate!

There is  smaller accommodation is suitable for couples and  more spacious properties for families or small groups. All the houses are within a few minutes walk of each other, so a larger group may want to rent more than one.  If your chosen accommodation is not available for the dates you need, Olyvia has many contacts and will be very happy to help you find alternative, suitable accommodation; in another house, a villa, apartment or hotel.
